About Wine Magpie

Wine Magpie is a website dedicated to bringing you great value deals on wine.  Every week the Wine Magpie scours the internet looking for the best deals from all UK wine retailers from the giants right down to the smallest online shops.

There are always great deals to be had on wine and Wine Magpie ensures that you can fill your wine racks with quality wines which you haven’t paid over the odds for.

Wine Magpie is about good value wine at any price point, not cheap wine.

Why do you need Wine Magpie?

  • How many times have you gone online to buy wine and what should have been a simple 5 minute job has turned into the internet version of a serious gym work out?
  • How many times have we all been lured in by the fantastic 35% off deal only to later find your wine cheaper elsewhere?
  • Has an extortionate delivery charge popped up after going through the painful registration process making the wine more expensive than going to the corner shop?
  • And how are you supposed to know if it’s still a deal if only one retailer sells it in the UK?

Wine Magpie will do all the legwork for you and present you only with deals that genuinely offer great value.

What does it take to be a Wine Magpie deal?

1) You can’t buy the wine cheaper in the UK online
2) The retailer didn’t just have a higher starting price in the first place
Eg 38% off Moet & Chandon Brut Imperial, Was £40.00, Now £25.00
This isn’t actually a deal when everyone else sells it for around £25.00 anyways.
3) For wines exclusive to one retailer in the UK then you need independent proof of the quality of the wine

How does Wine Magpie track down the best deals?

The Wine Magpie scours the internet every week looking for the top deals. Only if a wine fulfils the following objective criteria will it be considered by the Wine Magpie:

  1. Wine Magpie compares the wine deal against the same wine’s price in the Top 5 UK online wine shops
  2. Wine Magpie then conducts a thorough google search of other wine retailers.
  3. Wine Magpie demands independent proof of the quality of the wine - from any combination of the following:
  • competition awards or medals
  • professional wine score
  • press review
  • consumer group rating

So many wine sites simply make their own comments on the quality of the wines they are promoting – not very objective! Only if the Wine Magpie satisfies itself that it’s a genuine deal do we put the deal on the Wine Magpie website.

Who?

Ten years ago the Wine Magpie was just a regular wine drinking Magpie.  But then the wine landscape changed as the supermarkets started using wine deals to bring shoppers through their doors. The problem was that not all these deals were genuinely good deals and The Magpie spent more and more time searching out the good ones. But, finally, The Magpie came to realise that he could beat the system and find great wines at knock down prices. You can be confident that the Wine Magpie knows his Gruner Veltliner from his Chardonnay as he has been trained up and completed his Wine and Spirits Education Trust Diploma.

How does Wine Magpie make money?

The Wine Magpie receives commission from some, but not all, of the wine merchants across this site.  Whether the Wine Magpie receives commission or not doesn’t affect his decision about whether to promote a wine.  There are plenty of wine sites out there that only promote wine merchants that offer commissions and quite frankly they don’t do a good enough job at giving you great deals. Wine Magpie just wants to share his eye for a great wine bargain with other wine fanatics out there.
